TELLING MADE EASY

What's the best way to start talking to your kids about IVF, donors or surrogates?
Picture

Did you know?

Over 100,000 kids have been born with the help of IVF, Egg Donors, Sperm Donors, Embryo Donors and Surrogates/Gestational Carriers.

There are more than 5 million IVF Kids, and counting!

They need to know where they came from, how much they were wanted, and how special they are!

Studies show that the earlier kids learn about their unique origins the better.

For donor conceived kids who can't remember a time they didn't know there was a donor who helped them come into the world, the adjustment is easiest.

  • Kim Kluger-Bell has come out with a beautifully illustrated and simply told children's story to help children who've come into the world through non-traditional means, understand their origins. "The Pea That Was Me, A Sperm Donation Story" is a gift of a book about the gift of life given by sperm donators to a growing number of grateful parents and their fortunate children.

  • This book served as a conversation starter with my little one. The topic of surrogacy is gently introduced. This book is now in the rotation of fav books for story time.

  • I love this book!! My daughter is 2 and I started reading it to her and it has become one of our favorite books. My daughter always points to the same pea every time and I tell her that this story is all about her!! Every time I read this book I tear up with happy tears....my dream came true!! Very short read with fun pictures to keep your Special Pea interested!! I would highly recommend this book!!

  • I work for one of the larger embryo donation agencies in the US and we recommend this book to all our recipient couples. It is a book written in such a way as to be a fun story about how a child (who is a pea) came about through the help of a doctor and donor couple. It is not meant to illustrate a human child, rather it is meant to open a discussion. If recipient couples read this book to their children just as they would read them "Goodnight Moon" then it will open the lines of communication when it is time to talk about how their miracle came about. I thank Ms Kluger-Bell for writing the series on egg, sperm and embryo donation babies and look forward to reading the next edition :-)

  • Simple language, short story, but I'm hoping effective. My daughter is only 3 months old now, but we have read it often already. It helps us feel comfortable with what to say as she does start talking. It's cute and rhymes!
